Day 1 (Land's End to Okehampton)

Today was a very long wet day, not helped that I did not get a good night's sleep Either. Too excited or worried that the chosen route along the A30 was the wrong route. Land's End Hostel accommodation was a good choice with my host Suzie being very friendly. After dinner and a pint in the Last pub in the England it was off to bed. Left at 06.40 in the rain with my new best buddy Paul English, who I met last night and is also doing LEJOG. If you think I like a challenge, he is doing it carrying a backpack (see pic)
We had rain all the way today. Pleanty of tea stops. We are in Okehampton tonight. Total time was 9hrs and ride time was 7hrs 11 min and did 97 miles. Average 13.5mph.
The A30 was the right route but kept wondering if the tucks would see us. When the trucks passed it was like someone was covering us with a bucket of water. New meaning to the saying ' It's coming down in buckets'
Looking forward to tomorrow

Travel day

The sun was out this morning. This looked like a good start. Unfortunately it was not. Major panic as I arrived at St Albans station to find that my sim was not getting internet access from the iPhone. A mad dash home with a bit of swearing in between as I could not miss the 12.07 from Paddington. Luckily the 11.03 from Bedford was delayed to 11.14. This gave me 20 of hot footing, no cycling from Kings Cross to Paddington to get there with a few minutes to spare. No more deadlines to make until next Sun when I get the 11.25 from Wick.
Another great surprise today. The fund raising has passed the £1000 mark. Fantastic and thanks very much to everyone that has helped me. Jessica has arranged a bake sale at school this Friday so more to come. Land's End here I come!

Back on the Bike today after a spell of the 'runs'. Feels like hard work. I need to get rid of this bug before the weekend However, if I am not fit now then a few more days won't help.
Gutted that I could not do the time trial on Tuesday.
Need to gather my bits to pack and get some bigger plastic bags. Must not forget a copy of the UK map and a pen.
I think I will get a slicks on before the Sat and Sun ride. Keen to see how much faster I will feel.
Starting to feel like this is a bigger challenge than I anticipated.

Last of the big training rides. Sunday was very windy and good training for the big event. Didn't get the 90 miles in each day but did 70 miles off road with my mate Bruce.
Hopefully I will have the wind on my back and not on my face on the ride.

Another milestone achieved. Looking forward to getting those winter tyres off and converting to the slick Gatorskins. I think I am going to need them considering I am doing the A30 out of Land's End.

Seemed to have picked up a stomach bug and not feeling very well. Hope this passes today as I have missed my 10 mile time trial yesterday. Hope to do it tomorrow.
